Day 33: Thumri!!!

Saturday. September 8, 2012.

My Guru asked me to do a 30 seconds solo act in the beginning of our dance performance. I do understand that later in time, the more levels of Kathak I pass, more solo performances will be expected of me. I have done group dances, but solo is something that I could only dream about. On top of that, it's a Thumri, in other words, expressive dance. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to learn Kathak in the first place and so I welcome the opportunity. I am extremely nervous but I have to start somewhere, right? I'll know more about that part on Tuesday.

This is a thumri, ofcourse, by my favourite. A romantic dialogue between Lord Krishna and his lover Radha. Radha wants to go to home, and Lord Krishna wants her to stay.
